Adjust the Size of or Crop a Picture

You can adjust the size of a picture or crop away unwanted areas.

>>> To adjust the size of the picture
1  From the Picture menu, choose Change Size.
2  Select either Lock Proportions or Scale to fit.  -  Use Lock Proportions, to ensure the aspect ratio does not change.  Enter either the desired width or the desired height.  The value for the other dimension is calculated based on the shape of the current picture.-  Use Scale to fit if you want to specify both the width and height.  However, the software will not stretch the picture unevenly in one direction.  This prevents circles from becoming ovals and squares from becoming rectangles.  Instead, if the requested width and height create extra space, that excess area is filled with white.
3  Enter the desired width or height (for the Lock Proportions option) or the desired width and height (for the Scale to fit option).
4  Click OK to accept these values.

>>> To crop the picture
1  From the Picture menu, choose Crop.
2  The picture is surrounded by a selection border.  Drag a side or corner so the edges of the selection border surround the part of the picture that you wish to keep.  If you prefer, select Suggest Crop and the HP PicturePlace Editor will redraw the selection border to eliminate any extra white space from the edges of the picture.
3  When satisfied, click OK and the area inside the selection border will be kept.

>>> To determine the current size of a picture
1  From the File menu, choose Get Info.
2  The current width and height are displayed.  When ready, click OK.

>>> Hints
To change the units used when describing the size, such as inches or centimeters, from the Edit menu, choose Preferences.  The memory requirements for storing a picture are determined by the size of the picture, the type of printer specified when scanning occurred, and if the picture was scanned as a drawing or as a photograph.

For the highest quality picture, specify the desired final size when you scan the picture instead of waiting until the picture is in HP PicturePlace Editor.  This is especially important if you wish to increase the size.
